1.What’s your story (in 3 sentences or less)
For about 20 years I worked as a teacher of English as a Second Language. During those years, I walked numerous other paths related to language education including consulting, presenting and writing. In search of a different challenge, I left the school system in June of 2016 and joined an educational software company where I now work as a Product Specialist.
2. Biggest aha moment?
I consistently observe that the most intelligent and successful people I meet ask great questions and don’t hesitate to challenge others.
3. Share a fun or unique fact about yourself.
I swam with sea lions in the Galapagos Islands.
4. What motivating factor compelled you to join Tigerlabs?
As a classroom teacher, my schedule was very strict, so the option to work remotely was a radical shift for me. At first, I was enamored with working from home and its freedom. Snack when you want, shoes are optional. However, after about 6 months, that romance began to fade and boredom from a lack of connection and community set in. Tigerlabs was the cure.
How about a famous Zen story?
A monk told Joshu, “I have just entered the monastery. Please teach me.”
Joshu asked, “Have you eaten your rice porridge?
The monk replied, “I have eaten.”
Joshu said, “Then you had better wash your bowl.”
At that moment the monk was enlightened.
